AIRBORNE ALL THE WAY Wednesday, November 11, 2009

Happy belated anniversary of the end of WWI, Patton's birthday and Veteran's day. And, of course, happy birthday to me mom.
Skatezone went to watch This Is It on Sunday. Basically it's like the last big concert or something, not a movie, but a documentary, so if you really want to watch it you might as well buy the DVD. Then we went to Borders (wonderful place, this) and some Apple place. Not to buy the red edible apples mind you.
11th November 1918. WWI ended after almost four years and four months. The Germans overthrew their Kaiser and negotiated a peace treaty that was signed in a railway carriage by representatives of the main belligerents. Incidentally, the surrender of France in 1940 was later carried out in the same railway carriage which Hitler had ordered to be brought from a museum to the same spot. The carriage was later destroyed (so that the Germans wouldn't be able to surrender there again, I bet).
George Patton. Commander, famously, of the Third Army in WWII, swept through Europe and might've been in Berlin in 1944, if not for Operation Market Garden. Carried two ivory handled pistols, came up with his own uniform...a real maverick, our Georgie Patton. Loved to swear to kingdom come.
Tomorrow I'm heading to VJC for some matriculation thinggum. Gordy's in my class so that's good news.
Awful sad news about Fort Hood, but that's how things happen in this world. Meaningless murders. Not even a bloody assassination. Just mindless killing (rather like Jason's computer games). The world is going to the dogs. (It already has, actually.)

AIRBORNE ALL THE WAY Wednesday, November 4, 2009

It's raining something awful outside. In fact, yesterday and today have been terrible for the meteorologists. Rain, shine, rain, shine, rain, shine...and the rain and the shine are extremes, not just a little drizzle or a little sun.
Been playing tennis, lately. Not the real game, of course, but the computer version of tennis that my dad originally bought for himself but hasn't been using it. So, naturally, it now belongs to me.
Sometimes I think that since nobody ever bothers to visit this blog I might as well not bother to blog in the first place. But seeing as I've nothing else to do, I might as well say something.
11 November is coming. Me mom's birthday, Patton's birthday, end of WWI day, and Veterans' day is coming. I can't wait, because that's the first historical event in a very long time (October is quite a dry month). And when it does come I'll be looking forward to bombard you with needless information. Speaking of which, I've crossed out quite a few of my holiday resolutions. I've memorised the later part of the I Have A Dream speech, Ich Bin Ein Berliner, and all me Winston Churchill speeches. And I've finished writing one story. Not a lot, perhaps.
It's good, though, it's good. Now I suppose I should just cut short my rambling and go and stare out of the window for a while or go back to my absolute boredom.
Cheerio.

~Today in History~
1940: Franklin D. Roosevelt is elected to a third term as President of the United States.
1942:The Second Battle of El Alamein is won by the British in El Alamein, Egypt.

~Quote of the Day~
Here we will stand and fight; there will be no further withdrawal. I have ordered that all plans and instructions dealing with further withdrawal are to be burnt, and at once. We will stand and fight here. If we can't stay here alive, then let us stay here dead.
-Monty in Cairo. Optimistic chap.

~Useless fact of the Day~
Keith Relf, musician in the Yardbirds, was electrocuted while playing guitar in the bathtub.
What a way to go.

It's the second day of a new month. Happy second-day-of-a-new-month, everybody.

Yeah...I've got more, but I daresay you're already bored to death and your head's fallen onto the keyboard and making weird lines on your word document like aewsi43i8u9re d. So I shan't keep you any longer.

Keep doing your best, guys. Never give up, never surrender, never say die, never. As long as you want to do it you will be able to. Unless you want to live forever or something like that.

I realise that this sounds rather awkward. So I shan't keep you any longer. Farewell. Parting is such sweet sorrow.

Inspirational Quote:
If you're going through hell, keep going!
-Winston Churchill

2nd Inspirational Quote:
Never give in--never, never, never, never, in nothing great or small, large or petty, never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.

-Winston Churchill again.

3rd Inspirational Quote:

If you think you're beaten, you are;
If you think you dare not, you don't;
If you'd like to win, but think, you can't
It's almost a cinch you won't.

If you think you will lose, you're lost;
For out in the world we find,
Success begins with a fellow's will,
It's all in the state of mind.

If you think you're outclassed, you are;
You've got to think high to rise.
You've got to hustle before
You can ever win a prize.

Life's battles don't always go
To the stronger or faster man,
But sooner or later the man who wins
Is the one who thinks he can.

-Walter D. Wintle
