Write to live, live to write.

AIRBORNE ALL THE WAY Friday, April 24, 2009

So you think you're smart? Well, actually, yes, I do.
Today during recess there was this "so you think you are smart thing". I didn't participate but I went down because we were supposed to write a report on it.
It was basically like "Are you smarter than a fifth grader" with a few categories to choose from. The first category chosen was sports.
The first question was easy. "Who won the 2009 Golf Masters?"
Angel Cabrera, of course.
Next: "How many gold medals did Michael Phelps win at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games?"
Eight, of course.
As you can see, I didn't participate because the questions were so obviously below my standard of intellectual questions.
The only one I had trouble with: "How many GB can a 4th Generation iPod store?"
You may not laugh.
Anyway, what really infuriates me is this one question: "Which two groups fought in WWII?"
The question isn't infuriating. It was the player that was.
See, the correct answer is obviously the Axis and Allies. But one group argued that Central and Allied Powers also worked out "because the Central had Germany and Italy, and the Axis had Germany and Italy!" BLAH BLAH BLAH. In case you've forgotten, the Axis had one very important member that was in WWII - JAPAN. And you know what? Italy did join the war in 1915 for WWI - but AGAINST the Central Powers, not with them! It was in the Triple Alliance with Germany and Austria-Hungary, sure, but it still fought against them and therefore should be considered on the Allied side. And if you want to get technical, in WWII two more countries, Romania and Yugoslavia, joined the Axis, while in WWI it was the Ottoman Empire which doesn't include Romania or Yugoslavia.
Sorry for the boring stuff. But it was still really insulting to us history buffs.
Anyway, I was playing Google Earth Flight Stimulator just now. I took off from Nebraska and made a perfect landing before flying over the cliff and taking off without even pressing the down arrow.
And then I traveled to Nepal with the intention of taking off from Mt. Everest. Didn't quite make it, but at least I took off from the fifth highest mountain in the world - Makalu. Not bad, methinks.

~Quote of the Day~
Patriots always talk of dying for their country and never of killing for their country.
-Bertrand Russell. You realise that this is very true.
