Write to live, live to write.

AIRBORNE ALL THE WAY Saturday, September 20, 2008

Today's the twentieth of September.
Sixty four years ago, in approximately one minute (14 40), Major Julian Cook's men are going see the boats that they are going to board to cross the Waal river to take the important Bridge in one of the greatest phases of Operation Market Garden.
Approximately twenty minutes later (15 00) they are going to board the boats and sail across the river, using their rifle butts as paddles, become perfect targets for the Germans and get blown to pieces.
And yet half of the battalion will make it out alive and fight the Germans on the north side of the bridge. And in approximately two hours and eighteen minutes (17 00) the Germans will break and run onto the bridge, towards the southern end where the Americans are waiting to cut them into pieces.
And approximately sixty four years later I'll be wondering why I'm typing all this.

Let's just liken this situation to the Literature test. The students are Cook's men. The teachers and the tests are the Germans. The River is the duration of the test. Those who drown in the river won't make the passing grade. Those who get over the river and rout the Germans will.
Currently I feel like I'm one of the drowning ones.
I suppose it's all my fault, since I never studied anyway. But then again, I've never studied for any of my tests and I still did reasonably well (if you exclude Chinese, anyway. Chinese I study.)
But this one is different. This is bloody Chinese Cinderella, a book, I'm sure you'll all agree with me, that sucks.
In a sense I don't hate literature. It's the stupid book and the stupid tests that I hate. It's just like World War Two - I don't hate the war. It's the stupid Nazis and stupid Hitler that I hate.
Bad example, huh? Alright, scratch that.
Well, sorry about the rambling, folks. But I really have nothing else to ramble about. Doggone Review tests. They're just typical exams disguised under a nicer name.

~Quote of the Day~
"I have never seen a more gallant action."
-General Browning, describing the actions of the soldiers who brought the boats back across the river to fetch the second wave.
